We left the lodge and began the descent into Seward. It was also so beautiful that ran out of battery on the camera. The route was pleasant even with the increased traffic. We had a pleasant, if windy, lunch at a large lake. From there we continued to Exit Glacier. It's part of a National Park. Interesting, there was no fee station. I was all ready to whip out my "old lady" National Parks pass. For you younger folks, at 62 you can get a lifetime National Parks Pass good at any National Park.
The mile walk to the glacier was well worth it. The closer we got to it the bigger it seemed. Talked to the ranger from Florida.
From the turn off to the glacier to downtown Seward is only about 5 miles. The population of Seward is now less than half that of the pre 1964 earthquake. The town was leveled by the quake then squashed with a tsunami. All the oil companies relocated to Anchorage.
They did some clever things to rebuild their little port town. Among my favorite is the mural project. Here are just a few of the samples.
