THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES – THE 2015 COAST TO COAST
John and I were invited to cross the country again with Bubba. This time we're going as part of the SAG [support and gear] staff. We left on February 28th to drive to San Diego in cold and some snow. We thought the weather would improve by the time we made it to St. George so we could bike around Zion National Park. No luck, it was cold and cloudy there too. Route change, we thought, we’ll just ride in Joshua Tree NP in California. Not good biking weather but good enough to hike for .5 miles until the rain started again.
San Diego was also cold on Tuesday when we arrived. The weather has been steadily improving and should be clear and in the high 60’s when we leave tomorrow. It’s been interesting helping to organized snacks for 42 riders and 19 staff. Just the first trip to SAMS took 3 flatbed carts and $1,100 just for snacks, just for a couple of weeks. Beverage purchases were equally staggering. At least we don’t need to worry about breakfasts and dinners. Chef Anne has been working on the first night feast of Rosemary Chicken, rib eye roast, 2 kinds of vegetables, salads, and banana cream pie. For a food lover like me it’s worth coming on the trip just to get to eat the food she prepares.
Today we had the rider’s meeting. It was really interesting listening to the background and reasons each person gave for coming on this adventure. I heard the same nervous emotion in each of them that I felt last year. It will be a privilege to help them along.
