A day of transitions: Texas to Louisiana, moist to wet, barbeque to Cajun, wild to plantation forest, rolling hills to near--level flat.
Yes, after 18 days we are out of Texas and into Louisiana. We've also completed close to 2/3 of the mileage. [Mileage not updated while our friend, Mike is out of town.] Historic influence changed from Mexican/Spanish to pre Civil War to Cajun/French influence.
Back in California, Arizona, New Mexico and west Texas we could bike for half a day between dry river beds. Today we could only go a few minutes before we crossed a new stream or a swampy area. There was heavy dew on our tents this morning. We're not accustomed to permanent damp. Towels don't dry. What get damp stays damp.
Today was a great fast ride. See Garmin. 16.1 mph over 72 miles. Seems impressive until we realized that the total altitude gain was less than 10' per mile.
Tonight we're in DeRitter, LA. Dinner at Presleys, est. in 1956. Crawdfish, Poboys, and fried everything. Yumm.
Note, the remainder of the Texas videos we will post on Monday or Tuesday. Internet access sufficient for video transmission has been challenging.
