Now here's a sight that I didn't expect to see in Mississippi.
It seems that the entire group had a good day riding 82 miles in the rain. Our bike mechanic excited to see that A-DOT had replaced the state border sign. The new one only has 2 bullet holes in it.
The riders decided that dog owners in Mississippi and Alabama must train their dogs to chase bicycles then leave them loose. Must keep them fit for chasing coons. No one bitten or knocked off bikes but one dog tangled with a car before he got to the bike. Just before lunch one rider hit a grate. He tumbled over his handlebars and the next bike in line fell over him. Mike will be SAGging the remainder of the ride thanks to the broken collar bone. Ketti had been in the previous accident and had badly bruised one side of her face. She managed to match the other side very symmetrically with another series of scrapes and black eye. There's just no stopping this woman. Today she walked 4 miles for a pedicure and lunch.
This was the 10th day in a row riding. It was worth riding in the rain just knowing that Saturday we would be relaxing on Dauphin Island. As with anything, a little hardship makes perfect weather and a nice camp site just that much more enjoyable. The camp is under some enormous live oak trees with direct paths to the beach. We have a meeting room with lights so we are able to socialize until the rowdy time of 9:00 pm. Hey, we are senior citizens!
John and I are really disappointed that Bill had to leave the ride today. He needed to get home. Stretch and his wife were also leaving and were able to drop him off in Atlanta. We'll sure miss biking with him. Bill, John and I have been riding together since the second day.
Today was a day of exploring new sites and new experiences. Long walks and a good lunch for me. John spent time on the beach and found a good ice cream shop. Pete and others got pedicures.
HI, SERENA AND BRYNN, GRANDPA IS GETTING HIS TOES WASHED. ISN'T THAT SILLY?
Tomorrow we take the ferry back to the mainland and ride 80 miles into Florida.
